3×3 basketball: a triumphant weekend for the French teams

Monday, 27 june 2022

The French women’s basketball team made history when they won their first gold medal in the world championships, while the French men brought home a very fine bronze medal.

The final weekend of the 3×3 Basketball World Cup proved to be a triumph for the two French teams. After performing faultlessly in all the different stages of the competition, the French women’s team – Laetitia Guapo, Marie-Eve Paget, Hortense Limouzin, and Myriam Djekoundade – won their very first world championships with panache at the end of a breathtaking game against the Canadians (16-13): a consecration for this team that had never before risen higher than the third step on the podium..

A few minutes earlier and in front of a large group of spectators, the men’s team comprised of Léopold Cavalière, Alex Vialaret, Franck Seguela, and Antoine Eïto (injured in the semi-final), won a fine bronze medal after an unbearably tense extra time against Belgium (18-17), representing their third World Cup medal after winning silver in 2012 and bronze in 2017.

The next key date for the two French teams will be the European Cup, organized from September 9 to 11 in Austria.

A partner of the French Basketball Federation since 2014 and a major supporter of 3×3 basketball since 2019, the Caisse d’Epargne has been supporting the development of this new Olympic discipline on a day-to-day basis notably through the Pacte Utile (Useful Pact) and its commitment to the renovation and construction of 3×3 basketball courts throughout France.
