Banque Populaire, the bank of the world of sailing, was present on all fronts this weekend: with Armel le Cleac’h on a Figaro boat and at Hyères for the French Olympic week.
May 4 saw Armel Le Cléac’h in competition at Sables d’Olonne on his return to a Figaro boat at the Solo Maitre Coq single-handed race. The Banque Populaire skipper came in 5th over the 340-mile course and also finished 5th in the general standings, in an event assembling an exceptional line-up of 47 racers. A fine performance and a highly encouraging one ahead of the Solitaire URGO Le Figaro event.
Next up is the start of the Solo Concarneau race on May 12.
Charline Picon (gold medalist at the Rio Olympics) also claimed center-stage with a gold medal at the French Olympic Week in Hyères, just a year after her return to competition. The victory confirmed her status of favorite and France’s strength in RS:X windsurfing. Another French talent, Thomas Goyard, took second place on the podium in the men’s RS:X event, for the third time in his career in an important competition.
