BPCE and Visa, key players in the success of Paris 2024

Friday december 20, 2024

The Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 broke all attendance records, with more than 12 million spectators (the previous record was set at London 2012, with 10.9 million spectators). To respond to such enthusiasm, the Organising Committee had decided, for the first time in Olympic and Paralympic history, to implement a single ticketing system at world level.

In collaboration with Visa and the Organising Committee, BPCE’s Digital & Payments division, with its Payplug entity, successfully processed 3 million ticket sales transactions (from more than 170 countries), with a quality of service that can be summed up in one figure: the acceptance rate reached 98%, well above the standard of 92% in France.

At the same time, Visa (the official supplier of the International Olympic Committee) has worked with BPCE’s Digital & Payments division on the management of payments within the Paris 2024 venues during the 29 days of competition.

More than 3,000 payment terminals were made available to approved merchants at most of the Olympic and Paralympic sites. Symmetrically, to improve the visitor experience, tens of thousands of virtual prepaid Visa cards have been issued and managed via BPCE’s Xpollens solution. In total, nearly 2 million transactions were collected by merchants at the Paris 2024 sites, under the double sign of ease and security.
