The launch of the future trimaran, currently under construction in the CDK shipyard in Lorient (Brittany), is scheduled for the spring of 2021.
Since April 2019, nearly 200 people have been working in one way or another on the Maxi Banque Populaire XI, a giant trimaran 32 meters in length… a fantastic achievement for the whole team at the end of a year disrupted by the health crisis.
Once the boat has been launched, Armel Le Cléac’h will take it out to sea and conduct a whole series of trials and validations. “After that, we’ll set out on a tour of southwest France and the Mediterranean to make contact with the regional Banques Populaires before returning in late July after making a round trip across the Atlantic, probably to the West Indies. This is the time you need to fine-tune a vessel such as this to be ready for the first race: the Transat Jacques Vabre starting from Le Havre on October 24, 2021,” explains the Breton skipper.
