Kudos for the French Sailing Team at Enoshima in Japan! For nearly two months, the French team was able to practice on the body of water chosen for the forthcoming 2020 Tokyo Games. And the results are more than positive…
First of all, the Test Event held from August 15 to 22 allowed the team to start collecting medals with gold for Camille Lecointre & Aloïse Retornaz (470) and silver for Charline Picon (RS:X). This fine start to the summer then continued with the World Cup Series from August 25 to September 1 with the collection of five new medals: gold for the sailing duo Quentin Delapierre & Manon Audinet (Nacra 17) and for Louis Giard (RS:X), rounded off with bronze medals for the crew comprised of Julie Bossard & Aude Compan (49er FX), for Pierre Le Coq (RS:X) and Jean-Baptiste Bernaz (Laser). As a result, France emerged as the No.1 nation from this stage in the World Cup.
These are more than promising results just one year before the start of the Olympic Games, as confirmed by Guillaume Chiellino, Director of the French team: “We have finished a superb two-month session in Japan with excellent results. The whole French team can be proud of their achievements: the athletes, the coaches, and all the support staff. We still have some things to fine-tune, however, before realizing our full potential before the Olympic Games.”
This also represents a great source of pride for Banque Populaire, a partner of French sailing for the past 30 years.
