Hitherto undefeated in the competition, the French team lost to Sweden (26-32) in the semi-finals and then to Spain (29-35) in the third & fourth-place play-off. The French, however, have no reason to be ashamed of this more than encouraging 4th place!
At the end of the championship, Denmark retains its world title after beating Sweden (26-24) while Spain takes third place on the podium.
Back home in France today, Les Bleus will have a new objective in mind: to win a place for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Olympic Qualification Tournament will be staged from March 12 to 14 in Montpellier (France) when the French team will be facing Portugal, Croatia and Tunisia. Only the top two teams to emerge from the tournament will be flying to Tokyo.
