Already guaranteed a place in the quarterfinals, the members of the French men’s handball team won their 4th match in a row against Spain (36-31). They now stand alone at the top of Group A. They still have one game to play in the group phase against Norway this Sunday at 9:15 am. The women’s team, defeated by Sweden, is still in the running for qualification for the quarterfinals but they will have to put up a strong performance against Russia this Saturday (7:15am).
In basketball, the women’s team had no option but to win… and they performed as required in their important game against the Nigerians. The final score was 87-62. A major challenge awaits the French women when they come up against Team USA on Monday, August 2.
In sailing, Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz remain third in the provisional overall rankings in the 470 class event… along with Kevin Peponnet and Jérémie Mion also in the 470 class before they enjoy a rest day on Saturday. Jean-Baptiste Bernaz will compete in his 4th medal race after Beijing, London, and Rio. It was a day of mixed results in the Nacra 17 competition for Quentin Delapierre and Manon Audinet who are ranked 7th.
Unfortunately Boris Neveu met with disappointment in the canoe slalom K-1 event when he performed less well than expected in the final and ended up in 7th place (read article).
