Armel Le Cléac’h and his six-member crew were first to cross the finish line in Antibes on the French riviera between Nice and Cannes on Wednesday, October 2 at 8:24pm, and to claim victory in this latest edition of the Finistère Atlantique sailing race at the end of a voyage lasting 4 days, 7 hours, and 24 minutes.
This prestigious victory rounds off an exceptional season marked by a solo round-the-world race in addition to the ‘Oceans Relay,’ a voyage in which the Maxi Banque Populaire XI carried the Paris 2024 Olympic Flame across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans.
“We’re going to savor this victory! Above all, we share the satisfaction of a job well done. We put everything we had into getting our maneuvers and trajectories just right, and making sure we kept the boat at 100%. We were well-prepared; all the work we’d done over the last few weeks paid off and everything went smoothly during the race!” said Armel Le Cléac’h, skipper of Maxi Banque Populaire XI, after the race.
Armel doesn’t hide his satisfaction with his crew, either: “I’m very happy with our choice of crew members. We chose sailors with different backgrounds to enable us to put a team together. I think we found the right mix because everyone played their part in making sure we were 100% at all times. There was a good atmosphere too, with lots of chatting and joking, but when it came to being serious, everyone was focused and reactive. We all had a lot of fun, and that’s important.”
Congratulations to Armel Le Cléac’h, Sébastien Josse, Clément Duraffourg, Pierre-Emmanuel Hérissé, Corentin Horeau, Morgan Lagravière, and Quentin Ponroy for this fine achievement! It allows us to look optimistically to the future and the forthcoming major races: the Jules Verne Trophy in one year’s time, the Transat Jacques Vabre next year, and the Route du Rhum in two years’ time.
