Groupe BPCE at the Rio Olympic Games
The Olympic Games, the world’s most anticipated sporting event, are also the highlight of Groupe BPCE's commitment to high-level sports coaches through its Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE system.
Olympic coaches in the spotlight
The adventure began in 2014. As the exclusive banking partner of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) since 2010, Groupe BPCE has set up the Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE system to promote the daily work of coaches, which too often takes place in the shadow of their athletes. Every month, many coaches of the French Olympic Team, such as Hugues Obry (fencing), Franck Citeau (sailing), Cathy Fleury (judo), Claude Onesta (handball), Laurent Tillie (volleyball) or Valérie Garnier (basketball), discuss and analyze, on camera, the work they do with their athletes. For all of us, the Olympics represent the Holy Grail, the culmination of years of training and the sharing of intense emotions.

A long-term monitoring of the coaches
It’s this long Olympic preparation that Groupe BPCE wanted to follow as closely as possible with the coaches, maintaining a long-term relationship with them. Thus, for almost two years now, Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE has been following Romain Barnier, the manager of the Cercle des nageurs de Marseille (“Marseille swimmers’ circle”), and filming the behind-the-scene training activities and competitions. Consecrated on August 7 in Rio, the French team won the silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay. Among them, three swimmers from Marseille – Mehdy Métella, Fabien Gilot and Florent Manaudou – had been trained by Romain. On August 13, after Florent Manaudou won the silver medal in the 50-metre freestyle, Romain Barnier revealed his impressions to the team of Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE, happy to have coached a great team driven by solidarity and full of hope for the new generation of French swimmers.
Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE has also been involved for the past four months in the preparation of Jérôme Déchamp, head of the French rowing team in the Lightweight Men's sector. There was a moment of pure joy for the coach and his rowers who won the bronze medal for the coxless 4 rowing event and the gold medal in the double sculls on Thursday August 11 and Friday August 12! Two fine medals that reward all the work accomplished and the bold coaching choices. Happy and moved, the coach shared his impressions with the team of Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE.

Alongside Alan Luis Duarte, a coach in a Rio favela
During its presence at the Rio Games, Groupe BPCE focused on supporting a project with both a sporting and social vocation. Its choice fell on the Abraço Campeão project, founded by Alan Luís Duarte, a former boxing champion who now works as a coach. This 28-year-old Brazilian takes charge of young people from his favela to teach them boxing, but also to give them citizenship classes. The objective of Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE: to give visibility to the project and to help Alan financially to improve his installation. Through five video reports, Votre Coach by Groupe BPCE follows the coach and his boxers to the heart of the favela and even invites them to attend an Olympic boxing event. An intense moment for Alan who dreams of seeing one of them participate in the 2024 Olympic Games and to feel the same joy experienced by Jérôme Déchamp with the France Club just after their victory in the coxless 4 rowing event.
