Big success for the Olympic and Paralympic Week

Over 180,000 youngsters took part in the 2019 edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Week. The fourth edition of the event is scheduled to take place on February 3-8, 2020.

Twice as many projects and participants as in 2018

The third edition of France’s Olympic and Paralympic Week, organized by the Ministry of Education, took place on February 4-9, 2019. The event proved a big success with the educational community. All in all, the week dedicated to diversity featured over 1,300 projects (versus 500 in 2018) and saw 180,000 youngsters raise their awareness of diversity issues, more than double the 80,000 last year.
In addition, over 1,500 schools and higher education establishments representing 475 towns and cities and all regional academies took part in promoting sport among youngsters, along with the social and human values associated with it. Lastly, over 150 athletes went out to meet school pupils and help them discover their sport or raise their awareness of disabled sport, a component of two thirds of the projects proposed by the participating schools and educational institutions.

CASDEN in action

CASDEN, Groupe BPCE’s cooperative bank for public sector employees, was particularly involved in the third Olympic and Paralympic Week. For proof, the “Sport at School” call for projects launched on the bank’s crowdfunding platform, "Ma belle Tribu", registered 11 projects in record time. Three of them were singled out by CASDEN for €1,000 of funding. Also of note was the role played by delegates in enabling schools to bring to fruition eight projects focused on organizing marathons or mini-Olympics.

2020, an Olympic and Paralympic year

The next edition is scheduled to take place on February 3-8, 2020 under the theme of interculturality. In the meantime, another diary date: the Olympic Days on June 22 and 23, designed to unite the whole of France with a view ahead to the Games.
