Paris 2024: a new label for local authorities

On Monday June 17 at a meeting in the French Senate building, the Organizing Committee of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games officially launched the Terre de Jeux 2024 label (“2024 Land of Games”) to enable all local authorities (who choose to do so) to take part in the Olympic and Paralympic adventure.

This approach is something new. Before Paris 2024, only local authorities actually hosting events or welcoming delegations could claim to be part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The aim is to enable all local regions, irrespective of their resources and size, whether in mainland France or in overseas territories, to get involved in the Olympic and Paralympic adventure and to take advantage of the dynamics of the Games to highlight and accelerate their own sport-related projects,” explained Tony Estanguet, Chairman of the Olympic Games Organizing Committee.

Local authorities (cities, départements, and regions) can now post their applications on the dedicated Internet platform: terredejeux2024.org. The first certifications will be awarded in the autumn, with the process subsequently continuing until 2024.
Starting in October later this year, all selected local authorities will receive a communications kit with the logo of the operation, derived objects and examples of actions to be carried out in 2020 during the ‘Olympic and Paralympic Week’ organized in schools in February 2020, ‘Olympic Day’ on June 23, and during the 2020 Tokyo Games between the end of July and the beginning of September.

A key player in providing financing for the French regions, Groupe BPCE supports local authorities in a host of projects. By teaming up with Paris 2024, the Group is asserting itself as a favored partner of the sports economy in its different markets – individual and professional customers, companies, associations and local authorities – and, in doing so, is actively contributing to the economic development of all the different regions of France.
