The Caisses d’Epargne: cooperative banks for the past twenty years

Tuesday, 2 july 2019

The Fédération Nationale des Caisses d’Epargne is chronicling twenty years of the cooperative history of the French savings banks through a series of publications to appear between now and the end of the year.

The French law on savings and financial security ratifying the transformation of the Caisses d’Epargne into cooperative banks was promulgated on June 25, 1999 in the French Official Gazette. This law was the fruit of a long process of reflection on the rationale of a “social market economy,” which has since won the support of nearly 5 million cooperative shareholders.
To celebrate this 20th anniversary, the Fédération Nationale des Caisses d’Epargne is offering the cooperative shareholders of the Caisses d’Epargne along with the general public a series of articles and videos chronicling the history and characteristics of this original business model to be published gradually between now and the end of the year.
