August 3 – News about the night and daytime events

Discover the latest news of the athletes and teams supported by Groupe BPCE companies, live from Tokyo!

At the speed of bronze! Rayan Helal and the French team have won the bronze medal in the men’s team sprint cycling event! Despite setting a new French record, the women cyclists – and, notably, Marie Le Net – were unfortunately eliminated in the heats, putting them out of the running for a medal.

After an easy victory over Bahrain (42-28), the French men’s handball team won its place in the semi-finals, when it will be playing against Egypt on Thursday at 10:00 am with a view to securing a place in the final.

The French men’s basketball team will also be competing in the quarterfinals after their victory against Italy (84-75). Their next match will be on Thursday, against Slovenia, at 13:00.

Ranked 2nd after ten races in the women’s 470 class competition, Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz will be sailing for their medal on Wednesday. Kevin Peponnet and Jérémie Mion, on the other hand, suffered an immense disappointment when they failed to qualify for the Medal Race. Lili Sebesi and Albane Dubois finished 9th in the 49er event on the waters of Enoshima.

Jimmy Gressier was in heat 2 of the 5,000m event and achieved a time that was good enough to qualify him for the final.

In the 110m hurdles, Pascal Martinot-Lagarde qualified for the semi-finals. Wilhem Belocian, who also competed in this event, failed to finish the race.

Speed, bouldering, and “problems”: sport climbing made its debut this Tuesday in Tokyo with the men's qualifications. Anouck Jaubert will be competing tomorrow, Wednesday, when the women's qualifications begin.

Maxime Beaumont will also start his competition in the single kayak event during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, at 2:51 am (French time).
