Wheelchair fencing: Maxime Valet wins bronze in the men’s team foil event

Immense satisfaction for the fencer from Toulouse supported by the Banque Populaire Occitane, who won a magnificent bronze medal with the French foil fencing team in Tokyo!

A sense of teamwork

Fencing is a profoundly individualistic sport, yet many fencers say they get their greatest thrills from team competitions. This is certainly true for Maxime Valet, who finished 4th in the individual saber event. Along with the other members of the French men’s foil fencing team, however, he counted on his personal courage and the long tradition of French foil fencing to win a fantastic victory against the Russians in the struggle for the bronze medal. The French won 45-40, thereby proving themselves worthy of the long line of French foil fencers who have brought home so many medals in the history of the different French delegations.

Bronze in Tokyo after Rio

This also represents a fine success for this sports doctor sponsored by Banque Populaire Occitane who divides his time between training and his work at the CREPS Center for Resources, Expertise & Sporting Performance in Toulouse. This new medal will now join the two bronze medals he won in Rio in 2016 in both individual and team events, and demonstrates the culture of sharing that Maxime Valet fosters in both his sporting and professional life.
