Energy Observer, first French ambassador for the SDGs

Energy Observer, of which Groupe BPCE is a principal partner, has been since 2018 the first French ambassador of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030.

Adopted by the 193 UN member states, these 17 global goals – subdivided into 169 individual targets – provide a set of quantified milestones for 2030 designed to meet the challenges of poverty, inequality, the preservation of natural environments and the fight against climate change, and to propose new models for economic development allowing a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future for all.

In 2018, the French government appointed Victorien Erussard, the president, captain and founder of Energy Observer, as the first French ambassador to promote France's commitment to the implementation of these 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to raise awareness among a wider audience about these essential economic, social, and environmental questions. This mission lies at the very heart of the issues supported by the Energy Observer endowment fund.

The Energy Observer laboratory ship therefore sets out to meet the people actively involved in bringing about change, the men and women who devote their energy to creating sustainable solutions. In 2019, ‘Energy Observer Solutions’ was launched in partnership with the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, a digital platform providing access to a series of videos that highlight local solutions with a global impact: access to clean and affordable energy, innovations in the circular economy and responsible consumption leading to new job creation, access to high quality education to ensure gender equality; opportunities to fight hunger and protect terrestrial and aquatic life; the transition to sustainable and responsible agriculture

As a principal partner of Energy Observer, Groupe BPCE and its companies are also committed to strengthening their contribution to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to doing even more to help combat climate change. In line with the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB), Groupe BPCE has strategically aligned its activities with these objectives in order to take part in the common effort to ensure a better and more sustainable future for all.
