Erika Sauzeau, pararowing

Erika Sauzeau, pararowing: “Disability doesn’t mean life can’t be wonderful!”

Listen to the moving account of Erika’s life story: a portrait of an outstanding athlete supported by Banque Populaire du Nord via the Performance Pact, and for whom sport has been a language of hope from her earliest childhood.

Erika shares her life story (in French, link to the podcast)

Tokyo, August 29, 2021: the French team competing in the mixed coxed four adaptive rowing event won the bronze medal, and one of the members of the team was Erika Sauzeau. Erika, 39 years old, became a focus of popular attention, a moment of intense emotion for a woman who, just one year before, had never set foot in a boat or even approached a rowing machine.
For Erika, this triumph – coming after all the sacrifices, suffering, and struggles she faced to achieve this level of performance – was a fine revenge on life. It also sends an inspiring message to all the men and women who still believe that a disability prevents them from living life to the full. Despite the ordeals she has been through, Erika has never stopped moving forward. Hers is an exceptional life story!

Today, Erika Sauzeau is pursuing a new ambition: to compete in the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 and to do her utmost once again to break down barriers and change the way people view disability. A venture in which every dream becomes possible!
