Paris 2024: Groupe BPCE celebrates the first Paralympic Day

More than a hundred para-athletes will be gathering on October 8 in Place de la Bastille in Paris to celebrate the first Paralympic Day. Groupe BPCE is whole-heartedly involved in this exceptional event.

Para-athletes will be taking over the Place de la Bastille on October 8th to celebrate the first Paralympic Day! This event will provide the general public with a unique opportunity to discover a dozen paralympic sports (wheelchair basketball, boccia, blind football, wheelchair fencing, para-athletics, para-rowing, para-badminton, etc.), to try out new experiences (wheelchair handball, wheelchair BMX [WCMX], para-climbing, showdown, laser run, etc.), to meet athletes or attend incredible performances organized in a large number of initiation sessions and cultural animations.

Two years before the opening of the Paralympic Games Paris 2024, this first Paralympic Day will also provide an opportunity to encourage, and promote, the practice of sport among people with disabilities.

Changing people’s attitudes to disability

As a Premium Partner of the Olympic & Paralympic Games Paris 2024, Groupe BPCE is naturally supporting the event. Crédit Coopératif, a bank pursuing its everyday commitment to changing the way society considers and behaves towards disability, will be present and will be organizing, from 1:30 to 6:00 pm, a challenge entitled Un smash, un don – A vous de jouer (“A smash, a donation – Try for yourself!”) to reassert its historic commitment to a fairer and more socially inclusive society. The principle? Challenge the table tennis champions Léa Ferney and Lucas Créange, supported by the Banque Populaire Bourgogne Franche-Comté and the Crédit Coopératif respectively via the Performance Pact. The donations collected will then be paid to four associations supported by the Agir (”Act”) program set up by Crédit Coopératif. Charlotte Fairbank (wheelchair tennis) supported by Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking and Dimitri Jozwicki (para-athletics) supported by Natixis Investment Managers will also be present in Place de la Bastille to meet the public.

Other athletes will also be there: Sandrine Martinet (para-judo) supported by Banque Populaire Bourgogne Franche Comté, Nélia Barbosa (para-canoeing) by Banque BCP, Maxime Valet (para-fencing) supported by Banque Populaire Occitane, Marie Patouillet (para-cycling) supported by BPCE Financement and finally Charles-Antoine Kouakou (para-athletics) and Romain Cannone (épée fencing) supported by BPCE Financial Services.

Groupe BPCE is supporting 200 athletes, including 60 para-athletes, as they prepare for the forthcoming sporting events with a view, in particular, to the Olympic & Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

Discover the program of the day’s events and meet us on October 8 in the Place de la Bastille to enjoy the first Paralympic Day at first hand!
