Maxime Grousset

Swimmer Maxime Grousset achieves the fastest time of the season worldwide in the 100-meter freestyle event

Supported by the Caisse d'Epargne Ile-de-France via the Performance Pact, Maxime Grousset achieved an outstanding performance in the French Championships.

A fantastic 100m sprint

Competing in the French Championships is a prerequisite to qualifying for major international competitions and requires competitors to achieve extremely fast times. This was the case once again in Limoges with Maxime Grousset who distinguished himself in a particularly impressive fashion. After winning the 50-meter butterfly race (and qualifying for the forthcoming summer world championships in Budapest), he proceeded to compete in the 100-meter freestyle event. Maxime began by clocking up the best time in the heats (48”09) before demonstrating in the final that he hadn’t lost any of the form he showed in the Olympic Games where he achieved an impressive 4th place at the young age of 22! He won the prestigious 100-meter final in 48”03, which is quite simply this season’s fastest performance worldwide. Naturally, this outstanding time also qualifies him for the 100-meter sprint in Budapest.

Successful partnership with his coach, Michel Chrétien

And Maxime did it once again on Saturday evening by winning the 50-meter freestyle. This confirms the New Caledonian’s status as a major contender in the upcoming generation of French swimmers. His performance in Limoges confirms the excellent work done by his coach, Michel Chrétien who left Amiens, where he’d brought Jeremy Stravius and Melanie Henique to the highest levels, to join the staff of the INSEP national training center in 2018. This partnership seems poised to ensure the continued success of French swimming.
