Energy Observer in New York, in front of the Statue of Liberty

An American stopover for Energy Observer

The world’s first hydrogen-powered, fuel autonomous and zero emission vessel, for which Groupe BPCE is a main partner, was welcomed by Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking teams for its historic first stop in New York.

As part of the last leg of its third transoceanic voyage, Energy Observer has been making iconic stops along the East Coast of the United States, including Miami and Washington, DC. On April 10, it sailed into New York for the first time, docking in the heart of Manhattan.

Thanks to the partnership with Groupe BPCE, Natixis CIB teams had the chance to visit the laboratory boat and meet its crew and scientists. They discussed the highlights of their pioneering project, a world tour to explore hydrogen technologies and renewable energy and develop solutions to advance the energy transition.

Energy Observer and the city of New York share a common mission in promoting sustainable energy innovation, with the city’s pledge to reach a goal of 100% renewable electricity by 2040 and serve as a center for technologies that help fight climate change. The city is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations, allowing the ship to further cement its role of ambassador for France of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN and its 2030 Agenda.

The crew now heads towards Boston, one of the final stops on its tour for a meeting with the Natixis Investment Managers teams. The ship will then cross the Atlantic for a return to France in June before sailing to Paris this summer for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
