Armel Le Cléac’h, the Banque Populaire skipper, is continuing his adventure on the Figaro circuit, one year after making his comeback to this discipline. Before competing in the Solitaire du Figaro single-handed race, however, he will be taking part in the Transat AG2R La Mondiale, resolutely determined to win this double-handed transatlantic race for the third time. He will be accompanied in this attempt by a talented co-skipper: Erwan Le Roux.
The Transat AG2R La Mondiale will set off from Concarneau on April 19th. This is a race that Armel already knows well, having won it twice before in 2004 and 2010. To win it a third time, the yachtsman will be able to count on the precious support of Erwan Le Roux.
It is true that Erwan Le Roux can boast a wealth of experience on many different types of boats. In the Multi50 class, he excelled in the Route du Rhum single-handed yacht race (winner in 2014 and 2nd in 2018), in the Transat Jacques Vabre (winner in 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2nd in 2017) and the Transat Québec-Saint Malo (winner in 2012). This 46-year-old native of Morbihan in Brittany makes no secret of his pleasure at returning to the Figaro race, and the fact of teaming up with Armel is also extremely motivating: “He’s a tough skipper at sea, meticulous in his preparation and skillful in his reading of the weather.” The training program will begin after the boat is launched at the end of January.
