The reigning Olympic champion and World vice-champion has won her fourth European title!
Last week, the best windsurfers gathered in Vilamoura, Portugal, to compete in the European RS:X (windsurfing) championships and Charline Picon, supported by Banque Populaire Aquitaine Centre Atlantique, won the gold medal on November 28th.
As she said beforehand, Charline was absolutely determined to recover her number 1 ranking in Vilamoura. After winning 5 races, the 35-year-old windsurfer from La Rochelle remained in the lead the entire week of competition and claimed her 4th European title after winning the final.
“Goal achieved… and achieved in style! I’m super happy with this week where I won 5 out of 10 races… and I could have done even better. I received the congratulations of the international coaches. It’s a fantastic result that shows that all the hard work of the past few months paid off. But I can’t rest on my laurels because the young competitors behind me are extremely ambitious,” emphasized Charline Picon.
Thomas Goyard, for his part, remained in the top 10 all week. The 28-year-old from New Caledonia, supported by Banque Populaire Méditerranée, finally took 7th place in the overall ranking, 30 points behind the champion, the Israeli Yoav Cohen.
Banque Populaire has made a long-term commitment to sailing over the past 30 years and is proud to use the Performance Pact to support these up-and-coming French athletes at all the important stages in their preparation for the next Olympic Games.
